A breakthrough top ten finish in the Merrett-Murray medal underlined the step forward taken by Zac Bailey in 2020.
The flashes of brilliance he’d given us glimpses of in 2019 were still there but they were just the highlights of a far more consistent season.
Once again Bailey was used in a variety of roles and his versatility continues to be a major asset for coach Chris Fagan.
The Northern Territory product’s electric pace and evasiveness causes nightmares for oppositions and he was responsible for some big moments as the Lions advanced to their second consecutive finals season.
He hit the scoreboard with far more regularity booting 13 goals from 19 games including two each against Western Bulldogs, GWS and Sydney.
He also topped twenty disposals per game for the first time in 2020, collecting 21 possessions in games against Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.
The coaches liked what they saw from the 21-year-old speedster as he polled strongly throughout the season to finish 9th in Club Champion voting.
Bailey is contracted until at least the end of 2021.
