The Brisbane Lions have roared into December, surpassing the 10,000 member mark.
Lions’ midfielder, Daniel Rich, today celebrated the occasion by signing up Champion Queensland racehorse, Buffering, and trainer Robbie Heathcote, as Lions’ members.
“It's great to see high-profile Queenslanders believing and belonging,” said Rich.
“If all our existing members can recruit one extra member, be it a friend, family member or even a horse, then we can get our membership numbers back up where they use to be.
“With Leppa on board and a lot of fresh new faces at the Club, there is a real sense of excitement and enthusiasm around the place.
“It really is a great time to be a part of the Brisbane Lions.”
Rich’s call for Lions members to recruit one extra member comes after former Lions triple Premiership winning coach, Leigh Matthews, urged all existing members to see the milestone as the catalyst to grow the Club’s membership back to its historic level of around 30,000.
In a letter to members last month, Matthews said:
“I urge and encourage all existing members to not only renew but to recruit ONE extra member as well.
“Growing our membership back up to its historic level of around 30,000 can be done. This would be of enormous value to the club’s financial position to fund a strong football operation and team.”
The Lions reached the 10,000 member mark following the launch of the third instalment in the Lions ‘Believe. Belong’ video series last week.
The final instalment of the series is set to be released this week and features Fitzroy legend Kevin Murray.

Lions CEO Malcolm Holmes said: “Members are the life-blood of any football club and we are absolutely thrilled to have 10,000 committed Lions members already.”
“Whilst we still have a long way to go, reaching 10,000 members at this stage in our membership campaign is a significant achievement.
“I encourage all our members to get behind Leigh’s call to arms and do their very best to sign up one extra Lions member.
“If we can all focus our efforts on recruiting just one family member or friend then there is no doubt that we can see our membership back at the level it was during the early 2000s.”
