Brisbane’s National Recruiting Manager Stephen Conole says the Lions are on the hunt for a strong midfielder, as the team eyed off talent on Day 1 of AFL Draft Combine.
Conole spoke from Etihad Stadium to AFL Media, “It is a goal for us to add some more depth, players that can get through that. So for us, we’re really excited about that and what might be involved for us during this period.”
The Lions have secured the number 1 AFL pick for November’s upcoming draft but Conole says they are undecided on who they will select.
“Not at this stage. There’s probably three, four, perhaps five boys at the moment that we’ll head through this period, watch a bit more vision. Catch up with them all again,” he said.
AFL talent experts believe Cameron Rayner and Luke Davies-Uniacke are
“I think they’ve both had really good years. Not only this year but they’ve been top-end players for quite a few years.”
But Conole believes Paddy Dow, Adam Cerra and Andrew Brayshaw are not to be discounted and are also in the running for the number 1 pick.
Draft hopefuls underwent medical examinations and psychomotor testing today, with intensive one-on-one interviews with Senior Coach and football staff from the 18 AFL Clubs to take place tomorrow.
They will finally have their chance to show off their football skills tomorrow night as they undergo goal and kicking tests on the Etihad ground.
