Each year, the AFL Trade Period generates a heightened level of anxiety among fans, with rumour and speculation rife around potential deals involving ‘their’ players.
Lions fans are understandably on edge more than most this season, with a handful of the Club’s young talent indicating a desire to move home.
And the anxiety levels probably aren’t going to improve anytime soon, with the Trade Period set to run for three weeks from Monday 7 October until Friday 25 October.
While many fans will be constantly seeking clarity on what they’ve been reading in newspapers, National Talent Manager Rob Kerr says it’s not in the best interest of the Club’s ongoing negotiations to reveal too much detail surrounding potential deals.
“I’m not going to give you a rundown on (where we’re at with) each player and each club. But when we get to the end of the trade period, I’m happy to be open about what has occurred,” Kerr told Dom Fay and Michael Whiting in a special Trade Week edition of the Fancast.
“This whole trade period, there will be plenty of twists and turns, and we’ve just got to ride it out and put our best foot forward so we can get the desirable outcome.
“At the moment, I don’t think it’s necessarily in the Club’s benefit to be throwing up a whole lot of possibilities and scenarios.”
Kerr did reveal that the young Lions who had requested a trade were all “required players” and assured that the Club was committed to producing the best possible outcome should a trade eventuate.
Lions fans will be notified as soon as any deals are agreed to – if and when that occurs.
