The emerging drug scandal that has rocked the AFL, and Australian sport in general, has left a “cloud hanging over the whole code” according to Brisbane Lions Senior Coach Michael Voss.
Speaking for the first time since the recent drug revelations became public knowledge, Voss told a strong media gathering at the Enoggera Army Barracks that he hoped for swift action against any parties found guilty of illegal activity.
“We’ve heard the findings, now we want to know who it is so that we can move on,” Voss said.
“Until that actually happens, I guess everyone’s implicated until otherwise shown. That cloud is hanging over the whole code.”
“I would encourage that [whistleblowers] come forward. Otherwise the blanks are going to be filled in by everyone else.”
“The last thing that we want is to have people who are innocent in all this to get implicated.”
Voss believes the Lions have nothing to fear from the pending investigations, and remains supremely confident in his Club’s people and practices.
He sees the process as going a long way towards stamping out performance enhancing drugs from professional sport.
“Clearly we don’t want (drugs in sport),” Voss said.
“We look forward to seeing what the findings do show so we get a chance to eradicate it from the sport.”
“Certainly it’s a watershed moment, that’s for sure. But it’s also a chance to make sure that they can be fully aware that the integrity of the game will always be guarded.”
“It’s a good little wake-up call for everyone to sort of review the way you do things.”
