Sabrina Frederick-Traub was recognised as the inaugural Brisbane Lion’s Women’s Best and Fairest runner-up last Friday night.

The power forward was honoured to be runner-up to star midfielder Emily Bates, who received 112 votes to Frederick-Traub’s 104 votes.

The award comes after a remarkable season for the 20-year-old who received a NAB Rising Star nomination and selection in the NAB AFL Women’s All-Australian team.

Women's Coach Craig Starcevich commended Frederick-Traub on her ability to uplift and encourage fellow players.

“She’s able to generate great enthusiasm in the group; her spirit in lifting everyone is probably one of the reasons why we had a successful year.”

The Club’s marquee player expressed her appreciation for the support provided by Club and opportunity to represent women in sport throughout the 2017 AFLW season.

“I want to thank the club for investing in women as athletes,” said Frederick-Traub.

“To the coaching staff, everything you do is incredible and I want to grow up and be exactly like you.”

“I hope to inspire the next (athletes) coming through the same way you do.”

“Thank you so much for being here and supporting this amazing Club and team.”
