It seems the Lions injuries concerns are finally subsiding as they welcome back five players for Thursday night’s VFL clash against the Gold Coast Suns.
After overcoming an ankle injury, Ely Smith is set to bolster an undermanned midfield group.
The 20-year-old was on the verge of making his senior debut after dominating the opening two rounds in the VFL, including a 14 touch, 3 goal display in a half against Aspley.
With the absence of Lachie Neale in the best 22, Smith will be looking to return to his impressive form as quickly as possible in hopes of breaking into Fagan’s side.
Also looking to ‘knock the door down’ is big-bodied midfielder, Cam Ellis-Yolmen.
The former Crow will have Suns VFL coaches worried as he looks to add muscle and grunt to the middle.
As Jarrod Berry continues to battle an adductor injury, it could be a perfect opportunity for Ellis-Yolmen to offer a ‘bash and crash’ option to compliment the clean skills of Hugh McCluggage.
After a minor groin complaint saw him sit out Round 3’s clash against Coburg, exciting Lions recruit Nakia Cockatoo will also return against the Suns.
Having been hampered by injury at his time at Geelong, the former top 10 draft pick has been relishing the warmer climate and is an exciting prospect for Lions fans.
Thursday will also see Tom Joyce and Henry Smith return to the VFL line-up after a leg and ankle injury respectively.
The Lions VFL clash against the Gold Coast Suns will be played at Metricon Stadium at 7:10pm.
The match is open and FREE to the public, with car parking available in the RED carpark (across the road from Metricon).
It will also be televised on Fox Footy 504 and streamed on Kayo.
