The Brisbane Lions AFC advises that rookie-listed player Daniel Dzufer has been charged with Drink Driving after recording a Blood Alcohol Content level of .11 at approximately 12:30am on Sunday 10 February 2008.
After consultation between the Lions’ management, match committee and leadership group, the Club has imposed the following disciplinary action:
a) ruled Daniel ineligible for selection in weeks one and two of the pre-season AFL competition;
b) fined Daniel 5% of his salary – the maximum allowable under AFL rules; and
c) supported Daniel’s decision to volunteer to undertake an 11-week TAFE course called Under The Limit that better educates individuals about the grave community and health impacts of drink driving or the appropriate equivalent.
In deciding this action the Club has taken into account the seriousness of the incident and its impact on the reputation of the AFL, the Club and the playing group as a whole. The Club also considered Daniel’s exemplary behaviour to date and the fact this is his first offence of any nature.
The Lions are extremely disappointed to have a player involved in a drink driving charge considering the high level of education, training and awareness the Club invests into its playing group about the negative effects of alcohol each year.
The Club has acted promptly to address this incident in the best interests of its members, supporters and sponsors.
