A Lion since the inception of the AFLW, Emily Bates is a key member of Brisbane’s AFLW engine room. A professional through and through, Bates’ work ethic, consistency, and resilience throughout 2022 was rewarded with a career-best season and the AFLW Best & Fairest Award, the W medal. Bates became the second-ever player to make a clean sweep of AFLW Player Honours, awarded the W Medal, the AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player Award, and the AFL Players’ Association’s MVP Award. The 26-year-old also claimed her third All Australian honour, and her third Club Best & Fairest title.
