It is one of the best days on the footy calendar, ANZAC Day.

An opportunity to pay tribute to our service men and women, past and present, for the sacrifices they have made for our nation.

This week for our boys there is plenty at stake so without any further ado lets jump into this week’s match preview.

Last Time We Met

Last time: Brisbane Lions 16.12 (108) d GWS 13.9 (87), Round 6, 2023

It was in the nation’s capital this time last year when our boys faced the orange tsunami and successfully road the wave towards a 21-point victory.

Charlie Cameron put on a show in front of goal booting a career-high seven goals, including kicking one goal of the year contender. He wasn’t the only one to cash in, Hipwood, Daniher and McCarthy all joining the party kicking four goals between them. Jack ‘The Plane’ Payne controlled the air, leading the contested mark count for the Lions while our midfielders brought the speed and flair at ground level.

Our boys find themselves in a precarious spot with our season ledger at 2 – 4 but after a week of reflection and the extra motivation of playing in front of a sold-out crowd on ANZAC Day, it’s safe to say they’re raring to go!

Excited About

Lincs 150th Game!

Where do we even begin. From the big ride to that beauuuuutiful goal on Grand Final day, Mr Consistent, aka Lincoln McCarthy has provided Lions fans with plenty of highlights!

Recruited from Glenelg to Geelong in the 2011 National Draft with pick 66, Linc would go on to play 29 games for the Cats across seven injury-plagued years before joining the Lion’s den. Since that that day Linc has played 120 of a possible 124 games!

As he steps out onto Manuka Oval tonight Lions fans will be eager to see Linc’s trademark athleticism both on the ground and in the air as he becomes a Life member of the club. We wish him all the best in game 150 and hope to see a few textbook Linc McCarthy goals on full display in a giant Thursday night clash.

Match-ups we're keen for

Tom Green vs Josh Dunkley

Well, well, well how about this for a match up!

Two bulls of the competition are set to lock horns to try and gain midfield ascendency for their respective sides in this all-important clash. Dunks has been electric in the engine room and after six rounds is averaging 26.7 disposals, 6.8 tackles, 4.3 clearances. Meanwhile, posting equally impressive figures for the orange team, Tom Green has averaged 29.7 disposals, 5.8 tackles, 6 clearances starting the year in red hot form.

It's going to be a back-and-forth battle between these two contested possession beasts, but we know our man Dunks is ready for the challenge.
