However the Lions were pleased to report on Tuesday morning that McGrath had suffered no serious damage to his groin and might still be available to take his place in the side to play Collingwood this Saturday night at the Gabba.
Speaking from the team’s recovery session at North Burleigh, Lions Strength & Conditioning Coordinator Matt Hass filled in for Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton as host of this week’s edition of the Bupa Recovery Report on LIONS TV.
“There were no major injuries from the Essendon game last week,” Hass said.
“Ash McGrath had a slight groin strain, so we’ll test him this week to see if he’s available for selection.”
The news was also positive for injured ruckman Matthew Leuenberger who is already three weeks into his rehabilitation from an Achilles complaint.
“Leuey’s tracking along nicely. He’s out of the boot now, so he can start to do some strength work on his Achilles,” he said.
“He is following his injury timeline perfectly and should be back in the 10 weeks estimated.”
Hass also revealed that Josh Drummond was “fine” and will be made available for selection this week after spending last week on the sidelines.
