The Brisbane Lions would like to wish farewell to AFLW Premiership Defensive Coach Brent Staker and thank him for his contributions to the Club.
Head of Women’s Football, Breanna Brock said that Staker has been an integral part of the Lions AFLW coaching staff from the very start.
“Stakes has been there right from the beginning,” Brock said.
“He’s put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the program and has really helped make it what it is today.
“When he first started at the Club, he’d never coached women before. I’m sure he’s now leaving having learnt a lot from the experience.
“We’re forever grateful for the time and effort he has put into the playing group over the years.”
An accomplished AFL player with the West Coast Eagles and the Brisbane Lions in his own right, Staker returned to the Lions as AFLW Forwards Coach in their inaugural season, before transitioning to the role of Defensive Coach.
He played an integral role in the team’s development into one of the strongest defensive sides in the competition, highlighted in their 2021 Grand Final win.
Staker departs the coaching staff to join his partner who lives and works in Sydney.
