It’s no secret that the life of an AFLW player can be a busy one.

Between early morning gym sessions, late night trainings, Club commitments, full-time workloads, and family and social lives, there’s a lot going on.

For first-year recruit Lulu Pullar, it’s a challenge she has taken in her stride as she prepares for her first AFLW season.

“I think I’ve sort of got the hang of juggling it all,” Pullar said.

“Having the Club be so flexible and my beautiful family and friends being so supportive goes a long way in helping me tackle it all.”

When Pullar talks about ‘it all’, she isn’t kidding.

Combining her fourth-year medicine studies at Bond University, full-time hospital placements, AFLW training and a full social calendar is no small feat, but it’s a task the former Brisbane Roar soccer player is relishing in.

“I do enjoy the change of pace between my medical study and AFLW commitments, it keeps life busy and interesting.”

“I wouldn’t have dreamed of being able to mix medicine and AFLW if it wasn’t for the players like Tiarna Ernst (former Western Bulldog and Gold Coast Suns player) that have come before me and shown me it was possible.”

“Right now, I’ve got a bit of a break from uni which really helps in balancing everything.”

“It’s the first break I’ve had in years and it’s come at a nice time as well. I can really just focus all my attention on football for the next little while.”

With the 2022 season just weeks away, the first-year recruit has been making the most of the pre-season, focusing on settling into her new team and Club.

“I’m really loving it at the moment,” Pullar said.

“I guess I’ve had a fair bit of experience at different Clubs, but I’m really excited to be a part of this program.”

“Coming into the team, everyone has been unbelievably welcoming and there’s such a beautiful culture here [at the Lions]. Everyone brings something different to the team. I’ve honestly loved getting to know everyone.

“It’s just a really fun, healthy, competitive culture and everyone’s really passionate about what we do. I feel really grateful to be here and be a part of this club and this team.”
