Some of the League’s heavy hitters will travel to The Gabba in 2022 as the AFL today released a partially floating fixture.
Collingwood will travel to The Gabba for the Round 5 Easter Thursday clash, reigning Premiers, Melbourne will make an appearance in Round 23, and Essendon and Carlton return in Rounds 17 and 21, respectively.
The Lions have been rewarded with an exciting fixture off the back of another solid 2021 campaign where they finished in the top four for the third year running and made it through to a home Preliminary Final.
The 2022 Toyota AFL Fixture was today released with dates and times up until Round 9, with the remaining rounds locked in but locations and date and times to be confirmed at a later date.
At least three of the Lions games will be broadcast on Channel 7 in 2022, with the remainder to be confirmed in the next fixture release.
The Club will head to its spiritual home of Victoria five times in the 2022 season, including four games in Melbourne and one in Geelong.
Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann praised the Lions’ 2022 fixture.
“We’re delighted to retain our Easter Thursday blockbuster against Collingwood and also welcome big Club’s like Melbourne, Essendon and Carlton back to the Gabba,” he said.
“2021 saw packed crowds and a record membership number for the Club and we think this is a fixture that can help us continue to build on that in 2022.
“We would have liked to have had an additional game in Melbourne this year, but unfortunately that’s not been the case. We look forward to making up for it with events and additional opportunities where we can.”
