Indigenous Round Celebrations
As it did last year, Round 8 will coincide with the AFLW’s second-ever Indigenous Round.
The Lions will wear their 2022 Indigenous Guernsey for the first time this weekend in celebration of the Round.
The guernsey, designed by Ally Anderson, represents not just the AFLW team, but the staff, members and fans that have been part of the Club’s AFLW journey.
On the back of the guernsey sits the totems of the Indigenous AFLW players, Dakota Davidson, Ally Anderson, and Courtney Hodder.
“It was an honour to design this year’s guernsey and be ablet to include a representation of everyone involved in our AFLW history, most importantly, our members and fans who are an integral part of our story,” Anderson said.
The auction for all match worn and player issues AFLW Indigenous guernseys will be live from 2pm. Head to lions.aflauctions.com.au to bid. Bidding closes March 3rd.
A limited supply of replica guernsey’s are now available at shop.lions.com.au.
Our 2022 Indigenous Guernsey was photographed by Darumbul and Yiman man, Trent White on Yuggera and Toorabul land.
Davidson Bolsters Forward Line
Gun forward Dakota Davidson will bolster the Lions’ forward line on Sunday, returning from a stint on the sidelines under AFL Concussion Protocol.
She’ll add another layer of depth and talent to a young Lions’ forward line against the West Coast defence.
Her return comes as fellow tall forward Taylor Smith and livewire Courtney Hodder start to find some of their best form this season, showcased in their Round 7 clash against the Gold Coast Suns.
Davidson and Smith will be looking to put together another strong performance after they were key in the Lions' demolition of West Coast in Round 3, 2021.
Smith booted a career-best three goals, while Davidson kicked two. The pair just two contributors from seven to the Lions' 10 goals.
Lions on the Hunt
The Lions will be hunting for their sixth win this season in a bid to keep their Premiership defence alive.
With just three games left in the home and away season, including next weekend’s match-up with North Melbourne at Maroochydore and a trip to Ballarat with the Western Bulldogs, every game is becoming increasingly important as the Lions look to cement their top six position.
Following Monday’s heartbreaking loss to Melbourne, the defending Premiers will be hungrier than ever for a win in the West.
The two sides last met in Round 3, 2021, where it was a tug-of-war through the first half before the Lions eventually broke free to secure a 45-point victory at Hickey Park.
The Brisbane Lions will play the West Coast Eagles on Sunday February 27, 4:10PM AEST at Mineral Resources Park (WA). You can catch all the action on Kayo, Fox and womens.afl.
