Star Irish recruit Orla O’Dwyer will return to the Brisbane Lions AFLW side this weekend for their clash against the Western Bulldogs.
The relentless midfielder comes back into the Lions’ Best 21 after missing last weekend’s match against North Melbourne with shoulder soreness.
With the Irishwoman in career-best form, her return will give the Lions an added boost as they look to secure their ladder position in the final round of the AFLW home and away season.
Dynamic midfielder Maria Moloney makes way for O’Dwyer’s return to the side.
Her strong performance in last weekend’s 36-point win over North Melbourne showcased the depth and versatility of the Lions’ midfield ahead of their 2022 Finals campaign.
Sunday’s match will also mark AFLW Head Coach Craig Starcevich’s 50th AFLW game, with the Premiership Coach the first among his peers to reach the milestone.
The achievement comes off the back of a successful 2021 Premiership season for Starcevich, where he was named AFLCA Coach of the Year and led the Lions to their inaugural AFLW Premiership.
He remains the only person to win both an AFL Premiership and an AFLW Premiership.
Starcevich’s Brisbane Lions will be on the hunt for a strong win in their bid to finish the AFLW home and away season in the top two.
The Lions will also need either Adelaide or Melbourne to suffer shock losses on the weekend to leapfrog into the top two on the ladder and secure the all-important Finals bye.
The Brisbane Lions will take on the Western Bulldogs on Sunday March 13 at 3:10pm AEDT at Mars Stadium in Ballarat, Victoria.
