For 15 years Lulu Pullar has sat in the stands of the Gabba watching the Brisbane Lions make their mark on the AFL competition.
But come Sunday the script will flip, as Pullar will have her chance to leave her own mark in the Lions’ history books, when she runs out under the lights of the Gabba for the very first time in the Lions’ AFLW Qualifying Final.
It’s a moment that the 23-year-old can hardly fathom.
“It just means everything,” Pullar said.
“When you’ve watched the boys play here for 15 years, it’s just so exciting.
“I don’t think it was something I could even dream of back in the early 2000s, so to be running out at the Gabba, especially with these girls and this team is something I can’t even dream of.”
“It’s a massive honour and I just feel so grateful to be in this position.”
Coming from a long line of diehard Brisbane Lions fans that date back to the days at Carrara, Pullar has seen her fair share of memorable Lions’ moments at the Gabba over the years.
“I’ve been a Brisbane Lions member for as long as I can remember,”
“We always sat up at Section 423 and we’ve had so many awesome memories [at the Gabba].
“My family has been there through the thick and thin, through the great days and the tough ones too. We’ve watched some awesome games, the miracle on grass was probably one of the most memorable, and obviously there were some crackers last year as well.
“So to be here now as a player, it’s absolutely unreal. My friends and family are all really excited to come out on Sunday and watch us.”
The Brisbane Lions AFLW have only played at the Gabba twice in their short history, including a history-making Preliminary Final against Collingwood last season on their way to the 2021 Premiership.
Although the ground will be new territory for Pullar, the opposition certainly won’t be.
Having her debut against the Pies in Round 5 earlier this season, the Bond University recruit is looking forward to another strong contest against them.
“Collingwood are a quality side, they’re skilful and a powerhouse Club,”
“They’re a competitive unit, so I think it’s going to be a really tough game which is great for the competition.
“For us, I think it’s just ‘bring the energy, bring the pressure’ and making sure we’re shutting down that kind of uncontested footy that they love to play.
“It should be a cracking game and I hope we can get a lot of supporters out to the Gabba to watch.”
