The AFL has today released the dates and times for Sir Doug Nicholls Round which will be held across Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2022 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
The Toyota AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round coincides with National Reconciliation Week which runs from Friday, May 27 to Friday, June 3.
All 18 clubs will wear jumpers designed by Indigenous Australians to celebrate and recognise the history of First Nations' cultures across Australia.
AFL Executive General Manager of Finance, Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld outlined the significance of the 2022 Toyota AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
“Over Rounds 10 and 11, we recognise Sir Doug Nicholls and the impact he had on our great game, and we celebrate the contribution of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players past and present,” Mr Auld said.
“Sir Doug Nicholls Round is a highlight of every season, and it is more than just a celebration of the brilliant skills on the field.
“The Round is a further opportunity to continue to listen and learn from First Nations players and staff at all levels of the game.”
AFL Executive General Manager of Inclusion and Social Policy, Tanya Hosch said across the two rounds we are able to recognise, reflect on and celebrate the immense contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to the game since the beginning.
"Sir Doug Nicholls Round allows the code to celebrate the impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the game and to continue to listen to these voices about the perspectives and challenges the game still must address going forward," Ms Hosch said.
“Australian Football is loved and enjoyed by many people and we must never underestimate the excellence football enjoys from the skills, leadership and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the country.
“We know the platform of sport has the power to set the agenda – it can be an incredible force for good in our society and for our nation."
The AFL advises it aims to release the next block of fixtures (greater than two rounds) after Round Six to ensure supporters can plan ahead.
