The official 2013 AFL Trade Period came to a close at 2pm on Friday 25 October.

As expected, the Lions were one of the key players during the period, executing six trades on the ifnal
 two days.

In the lead-up to the Trade Period, it was revealed that five young out-of-contract Lions players - Patrick Karnezis, Elliot Yeo, Sam Docherty, Billy Longer and Jared Polec - had requested a move back to their home states. However, the Lions maintain that all are 'required players' and that the Club won't be trading them away for nothing. Listen to Rob Kerr's Fancast interview

? The Lions officially nominate Hyundai Lions Academy member Jonathan Freeman as a potential National Draft selection - but need to wait until the Father/Son and Academy bidding meeting before guaranteeing they can draft the big Queenslander.

? Vice-Captain Tom Rockliff was also rumoured to being on the trade table, although the Lions quickly dismissed this by Tweeting: "The Club can advise that it has NOT entertained, or entered into, any trade discussions surrounding Vice-Captain Tom Rockliff".

? Richmond's Luke McGuane told Trade Week Radio that he was keen to return home to Queensland and reunite with former assistant coach Justin Leppitsch at the Lions.

? Jonathan Freeman officially becomes a Lions player, with the Club committed to using it's fourth round selection on drafting the 198cm forward from the Hyundai Lions Academy.

? The Australian reports that Billy Longer could be headed to Hawthorn, who are in need of a ruckman following the surprise retirement of Max Bailey. Shane Savage is mentioned as a possible straight swap, although Rob Kerr state that the Hawks' first round draft pick is the minimum the Lions would accept.   

? Jared Polec's manager Nick Gieschen tells SEN that his client has no preference for which South Australian club he gets traded to. The Lions continue negotiations with both Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

? Jonathan Brown confirms that he will be going around for a 15th AFL season, after signing a one-year deal with the Lions. Brown's premiership teammate Simon Black, however, is still undecided about his future.  

? The Courier Mail understands that Fremantle have joined the race to secure exciting youngster Elliot Yeo, after West Coast's initial trade offer to the Lions was "insulting".   

? Collingwood have shown some interest in Patrick Karnezis according to The Herald Sun, but are also being linked to a handful of other players which could complicate matters.

? Lions National Talent Manager speaks with AFL Trade Radio about the Club's progress in the opening days of the trade period. He confirms that there has been interest surround the Lions' homesick young players, but remains steadfast that the Club would not be held to ransom.  

? Kerr also reveals that the Club will be looking for a mixture of ready-made senior players and draft picks from any potential trade deals.

? The Age reports that the Lions have shown some interest in the Western Bulldogs' Jarrad Grant. Grant has been linked to the Lions as part of the potential Sam Docherty trade.

? Billy Longer's potential move to Hawthorn takes an interesting turn when the Hawks decide to trade in St Kilda ruckman Ben McEvoy. Where that leaves the second-year Lions ruckman remains to be seen...

? Reports begin to surface that Simon Black has announced his retirement and is headed to Sydney as part of the Swans' coaching staff. However, both the Club and Black confirm that no decision has been made on his future just yet.

? Longer's stalled move to Hawthorn gives the Lions some renewed hope of keeping the promising ruckman, while Carlton and the Bulldogs emerge as the most likely destinations for Sam Docherty.

? A trade for Jared Polec is no closer to being finalised with both Adelaide and Port Adelaide unable to meet the Lions' demands. Matthew Wright's name has emerged from the Crows, while the Power are not budging on their offer of a second round draft selection. 

? The Age reports that Sam Docherty is likely to become a Blue, with Carlton offering a second round pick in exchange for the Phillip Island product. There is no other significant movement as the Trade Period enters its second week...

? Promising defender Justin Clarke expresses his loyalty to the Club by agreeing to a new three-year contract that will see him remain in Brisbane until at least 2016.

? Billy Longer's Manager, Paul Connors, tells SEN that the second year ruckman is "not closing the door" on potentially staying in Brisbane.

? The Lions continue to appear in most stories surrounding the Trade Period, but there have still been no official trades, although The Herald Sun reports that the Docherty move to Carlton is as good as a 'done deal'.

? Rob Kerr spoke to SEN on the morning of Wednesday 16 October to give an update on the Lions' trade progress. He confirmed that there had still been no trades completed, although a deal surrounding Sam Docherty's move to Carlton was imminent.

? Kerr also told SEN that out-of-contract utility Brent Staker has been offered a new contract and the Club is hopeful that he will re-sign shortly.

? Port Adelaide issue a media release to confirm that Jared Polec has nominated Alberton as his preferred destination. However, Rob Kerr maintains that the Lions will continue dealing with Adelaide as well as Polec is "not a free agent".

? Essendon begins to show some interest in ruckman Billy Longer, who remains in limbo after missing out on a potential move to Hawthorn.  

? The Age reports that Luke McGuane is unlikely to be signed by the Lions before the unrestricted free agency deadline on Friday 18 October due to the uncertainty of how many list spots might remain at the Club following the trade period. However, McGuane could potentially still find his way to the Lions if he's delisted by Richmond.   

? St Kilda emerge as a possible destination for Billy Longer, who is expected to mull over where he'll be spending 2014 over the weekend.

? Simon Black officially announces that he will be hanging up the boots at an emotional media conference at the Gabba.It brings and end to one of the all-time great careers.

? The Lions' hopes of retaining Billy Longer are all but dashed after the young ruckman's manager declares he wants to play with the Saints in 2014.  

? The Courier Mail reports that James Polkinghorne has decided to stay in Brisbane after chatting with new Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch. "He's happy to stay," General Manager - Football Operations Dean Warren said.

? As we enter the final week of the trade period, the Lions are still yet to execute a trade. However, the picture is becoming a bit clearer in terms of the likely destinations and returns for Elliot Yeo, Jared Polec, Sam Docherty, Billy Longer and Patrick Karnezis.

? West Coast's trade with Collingwood involving a swap of draft picks (see below) is expected to help Elliot Yeo find his way to the Eagles.

? With just four days remaining of trades, the Lions are still attempting to get the best possible deals for their departing players. Docherty and Yeo still seem headed to Carlton and West Coast respectively, however they might be determined by the outcome of deals involving Jared Polec and Billy Longer.

? North Melbourne enter the mix for Patrick Karnezis, and seem likely to pip Collingwood for the 21-year-old's service given they have a better draft position than the Pies beyond the first round.

? The Adelaide Advertiser reveals that Jared Polec's potential move to Port Adelaide might need to involve St Kilda, Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney in a complicated swap, with the Lions eyeing off Port's first round pick.  

? It is also reported that trades involving Sam Docherty (to Carlton for Pick No.33) and Elliot Yeo (to West Coast for Pick No.28) have been agreed to by both parties. However, the official paperwork has not yet been lodged with the AFL.

? With less than 30 hours before the exchange period deadline, the Lions are still yet to finalise any trades. However Elliot Yeo and Sam Docherty are expected to join West Coast and Carlton respectively before the end of Thursday. Meanwhile, there seem to be complications surrounding potential Longer and Polec trades.

? The rumour mill suggests that Collingwood forward Jackson Paine could be a pawn in a potential deal that could see the Pies land Patrick Karnezis.

? The trade paperwork for Sam Docherty's move to Carlton is completed late in the afternoon on Thursday, with the Lions expected to finalise one more trade before the end of the day...
