Memorable wins, close losses and a 2-3 record to start the season – it hasn’t been dull in 2008 for our team.

We have been very competitive for the first five games and we have had a tough roster.

The good thing for the future is that I don’t feel like we’ve played to our best yet.

There were games last year where we were playing football at a level exactly where we wanted to be.

We haven’t done that yet and we’re not quite running the ball as well as we should be.

I’m still really enjoying the season, but it will be even better when we get back up to that level.

With things going pretty well on the field, I’m starting to explore more options away from the game.

I’m doing a graphic design degree as I’ve written before, but I’m also looking at doing some work experience with the Pradella property development company.

Myself, Charmo and Jed are hoping to spend 30 days going into certain areas of the business like marketing, sales and construction to get a feel for the industry.

The club has a good relationship with Pradella initially through Craig Lambert, and Jodie from the company has been very helpful since they presented a seminar to us last year explaining how the business started.

It might help me see how I might be able to implement my degree into the broader picture.

It’s certainly going to keep me busy once we start the process.

As some of you who attended some of the old player reviews will know, I like mucking around with music in my spare time.

I’ve got a really good mate Dave who I used to be in a band with at school.

I do a little bit of jamming with him but I don’t have a lot of spare time, so I’m living my dream through him at the moment.

I like going to his gigs and going over some of the music that he is writing – he has played at The Zoo here in Brisbane and he actually has two bands.

One is called Sunflower and the other is New Manic Spree, which is getting a bit of airplay on Triple J.

He’s in the unsigned band competition and has been getting a good response, so check him out if you get a chance.

Hopefully we’ll be moving our way back up the AFL charts on Sunday with a win over Melbourne at the Gabba.

Melbourne are obviously not going as well as they would like but we have to be geared up to expect them at their best.

After running around after Halls and O’Loughlins, Franklins and Williams, and Tredreas and Motlops in recent weeks, there is no let-up for our defence this week.

Melbourne’s forward line is lethal. Russell Robertson can pop up and kick a bag anytime and Aaron Davey is quick and dangerous.

They are the ones who can get them over the line, so we won’t be taking anything for granted.

Every game that they go without a win makes the next one they play mean everything to them.
