There was something extra special about last Saturday’s win against St Kilda for those Brisbane Lions supporters who were at Marvel Stadium.
Chris Fagan also recognised it in his post-match press conference.
“I even heard a Fitzroy chant go up at one stage,” he said.
For those old die-hard Fitzroy fans, this was music to their ears – and a great reflection of the Fitzroy pride that still resonates in the hearts of many supporters young and old.
The players felt it on Saturday, and they also felt in on Sunday when they gathered at the spiritual home of the Lions in Melbourne, Fitzroy’s Brunswick Street Oval, where they attended a special members footy clinic and player sponsors function.
For the kids who braved the chilly morning, they were quickly warmed up by the enthusiasm of the playing group; with their footy heroes running drills, signing autographs, taking selfies, and offering plenty of laughs and hugs.
There was also an unforgettable moment for the Under 14.2 Fitzroy Juniors team, who received a special pre-game address by Captain Dayne Zorko and Vice-Captain Harris Andrews, inspiring them to their first win of the season with a goal in the dying seconds!
