The Lions were able to find a way to defeat the Hawks on Saturday afternoon despite losing clearances and limited inside 50s. Strategy Coach Danny Daly said accurate set shots was ultimately the difference on a windy afternoon in Launceston, Tasmania.
“We were able to win the contested ball count which is really important at a windy ground like Launny,” Daly told lions.com.au.
“The set shot accuracy probably won us the game in the end.”
The Lions had their lowest inside 50 count of the year, with 40 for the afternoon, but used it well. In the third quarter they had eight inside 50s which converted into five goals.
Forward half pressure again proved to be critical.
“We kicked seven goals from forward half turnovers,” Daly said.
The win in Launceston marked the sixth win in a row for the team, with four of those in four different states.
“It gives them a lot of belief, because I think out of those six, four have been on the road,” Daly said.
“They’re starting to get a lot more belief in how we’re going and their own individual performances but more importantly how we’re going as a team.”
The Lions will be at home at The Gabba for the next three home games.
