On the cusp of the NAB AFLW Season 7, the Brisbane Lions have bolstered the talent on their player roster, welcoming Brisbane Lions Academy product Ava Seton to the list.
A tough as nails contested ball-winner, Seton earnt her AFLW call-up after an impressive QAFLW season that saw her play her role in the historic back-to-back Premiership winning University of Queensland (UQ) side.
Seton was the difference in the QAFLW Grand Final, kicking the clutch goal that tied the scores and sent the game into overtime, with UQ going on to take the win.
Brisbane Lions Head Coach Craig Starcevich said that Seton will add further depth and talent to the Lions’ midfield.
“Like all of our Academy players, we watch them closely over the AFLW Academy Nationals in which Ava was solid for Queensland and a steady performer,” Starcevich said.
“But it was really her improvement in the QAFLW over June, July, and then finals where she was a key player for UQ that caught our eye.
“She’s an inside ball-winner and has got great defensive traits as a midfielder. She hunts the ball but goes after the opposition as well, making Ava a great complement to the depth of talent in our midfield.”
Seton joins the Lions as a replacement player, with Bella Smith to miss the upcoming season after sustaining an ACL/MCL injury in pre-season.
She will wear the #36 guernsey.
The Brisbane Lions will kick off their Season 7 campaign on Sunday when they face Fremantle at the Gabba.
