The AFL formally notified all clubs on Wednesday that there would be no change to the bidding process for players nominated under the Father/Son and Player Academy Rules for this year's 2014 NAB AFL Draft.
AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon said the AFL Commission had decided at its meeting in Melbourne that no change would be considered, due to the close proximity of this year’s nomination dates and bid meeting, to be held in early October.
The AFL had examined a number of other potential bid systems, designed to greater reflect the competition’s market value of a player in relation to his place in the draft, but any new system will not be considered for introduction before the 2015 year.
There are a number of Father/Son and Academy players among this year's crop of potential draftees who might be of interest for the Brisbane Lions.
The Lions, along with every other AFL club, will have to lodge their bidding nominations with the AFL by 2pm on Friday 3 October, with the actual bidding meeting for players scheduled for Monday 6 October - immediately prior to the AFL Trade Period.
