Allen Christensen and Club medical staff are consulting with specialists to map out the next steps in his rehabilitation from a recurring collarbone injury.
Scans revealed last Tuesday that Christensen would miss the remainder of the season after a crack had developed in the surgical steel plate that had been implanted to strengthen his broken collarbone.
Immediate surgery was ruled out given the large amount of surgical work done to the collarbone since it was first broken in Round 11 last season against Carlton at Etihad Stadium.
“Allen’s away with Peter Blanch (Head of Medical) today,” said Lions Physiotherapist Luke Licht.
“They’re getting another opinion of what is the best course of action to take.
“We’re just making sure we go through every avenue with Allen and we’re crossing every bridge as we come to it with him.”
Tom Cutler (hamstring) will return to full training this week, as will Darcy Gardiner, who was a late withdrawal from Saturday's match against the Western Bulldogs with a corked calf.
Alex Witherden will have scans to determine the extent of a minor hamstring strain.
Witherden injured his hamstring attempting to chase down the SUNS’ Darcy Macpherson in the opening minutes of the Lions’ NEAFL game and missed the remainder of the match.
“We’re just awaiting some scans at the moment but he isn’t too bad today. So we’ll see what comes back from those results and move forward from there," said Licht.
Lions Health Centre: Injury List
Reuben William is expected to be available for the Lions’ Round 6 NEAFL match against the Swans. William would have been considered to play this weekend had of the Lions not had a bye round.
“Reuben is tracking really well. He’s had a good couple of weeks in rehab.”
