The Brisbane Lions’ most decorated player, Simon Black, is hoping to get away to Bali this off-season to help recharge the batteries following his 16th AFL season.

Black remains out-of-contract and is still yet to decide whether he’s keen to extend his remarkable 322-game career with the Club.

A decision may hinge on his recovery from post-season surgery on a range of injuries which kept him sidelined for the majority of 2013.

In the meantime, the three-time Club Champion is simply looking forward to spending more time with his family and potentially returning to one of his favourite holiday destinations.

“I’m going to get some surgery, so that might hold me up for a few weeks,” Black told Matt Maguire in the final episode of LIONS TV’s A Brew with Goose for 2013.

“I’d love to maybe get to Bali at the end of October if the body’s OK, and do a bit of surfing. I’ll get back to WA for 10 days also.

“I’ve been (to Bali) half a dozen times. In 2000 we had a footy trip there, it was about my third year, and it was a hoot with a few larrikins among the group – like Craig Lambert, Stevie Lawrence, and Justin Leppitsch.

“(The off-season) is a great time of year to try and get a bit of surfing in, get away from it all and just relax. That’s sort of been my outlet over the years and I love it.”

With the Lions currently on the hunt for a new Senior Coach, Black may delay a decision on his playing future until the appointment has been made.

The Lions have until Thursday 31 October before submitting its first list lodgement to the AFL.
