The Brisbane Lions are thrilled to confirm Hawthorn triple-premiership player Jack Gunston has joined the Club ahead of the 2023 season.
Gunston, a former All-Australian player and Hawks Best and Fairest, arrives at The Gabba after the unrestricted free agent nominated the Lions as his preferred Club.
The 30-year-old will be a key addition to the Lions forward line, with Gunston being a three-time leading goalkicker at Hawthorn, having 430 career goals to his name from 225 games.
Brisbane Lions List Manager, Dom Ambrogio, said the Club was delighted to secure a player of Gunston’s caliber.
“It’s great to have Jack joining us and we see him as someone who will add a lot to our list,” Ambrogio said.
“Not only does he bring in premiership experience, but he also adds value in many other ways including his leadership.
“Jack is also a well-respected and admired person who we believe is a great fit for not only our team on the field but our Club.”
Gunston, who started his career in Adelaide playing 14 games for the Crows, already shares a key moment with the Club, as he made his AFL debut against the Lions in 2010.
The veteran forward follows in the footsteps of former premiership teammates Luke Hodge and Grant Birchall in joining the Lions after leaving Hawthorn.
“I am very excited to be joining a young group who are continually every year on the rise and ready for some success,” Gunston said.
“The playing group and the coaches from my conversations seemed to have built a really strong culture and I am looking forward to being a part of that.
“I cannot wait to meet everyone associated with the Brisbane lions and getting up to Queensland to begin the next part of my footballing story.”
