Lions.com.au takes an in-depth look at the statistics from Saturday night’s loss against Carlton at the Gabba.

Disposals
The Lions were beaten soundly in total disposals 294-344, and for the second week in a row had no players with more than 22 possessions.

Simon Black led the team with 22 touches last Saturday night in his first full game back, while Tom Rockliff, Jack Redden and Pearce Hanley all had 19.

Brent Moloney was held to 17 disposals for the game after receiving a heavy tag from Carlton. However, Moloney’s 10-possession effort in the second quarter was a driving force behind the Lions’ comeback.

Marks
Jonathan Brown took a team-high eight marks for the evening, including three inside 50m.

However the Lions’ spearhead struggled to convert in front of goal, finishing with 1.3 from four attempts.

Tackles
The tackle count was one of the few statistical categories the Lions won during their Round 9 clash against the Blues. The Lions laid 59 tackles to Carton’s 39, but their pressure was far from where it had been the previous week against Essendon.

Jack Redden finished with a team-high seven for the game, with Dayne Zorko, 150-gamer Jed Adcock and Joel Patfull next best with five apiece.

Redden maintains his second placing among the competition’s league leaders in tackles, and is now just three behind West Coast’s Scott Selwood.

Scoring Opportunities
Although the Lions rued some missed opportunities in front of goal, it’s fair to say that Carlton probably squandered more.

The Blues entered their forward 50m arc on 15 more occasions and had eight more scoring shots than the Lions, but finished just 1.7 (13) ahead on the scoreboard at the final siren.

Rohan Bewick was the Lions’ main weapon in attack. Not only did he kick three goals, but he pumped the ball inside 50m more times than any other Lion (five).

Goals
Bewick’s team-high three goals has elevated him to outright third on the Club’s goal-kicking list with 10.

Brown still leads the way with 15 from nine games, while Zorko has 11. Josh Green (8) and Matthew Leuenberger (7) round out the top five.

Dream Team
The Lions’ top five AFL Dream Team scorers were as follows:

93 – Jack Redden
87 – Brent Moloney
81 – Rohan Bewick
80 – Pearce Hanley
80 – Ryan Lester
