We take a look at some of the key talking points from Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch’s press conference this morning.
On our midfield
“We’ve got our best group together since I’ve been here so that’s exciting.
“Beamsy will still be a few weeks away from his best football but just to have their names there in that same midfield mix it’s fantastic.
“It’s exciting for the football club to finally get to see 16 months later than we anticipated our best mix.”
On Dayne Beams
“The adrenaline and excitement will probably get him through this week.
“Sometimes it’s the next week and the week after where the fatigue and match fitness starts to hurt you.
“We’re not expecting a lot from him but he’s a class player – anything’s possible.”
Building consistency
“I’m more excited about delivering the consistency of our performance last week against good opposition that we can build on.
“You can play well and lose, you can play poorly and win sometimes.
“We played well and lost on the weekend. If we bring the same level of intensity and effort, I know the scoreboard will be different this week.”
Preparation
“I think the players’ have prepared really well this week and we go down to Port Adelaide on a mission to try and get the job done.
“The mission this week is about consistency. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. I know it’s a cliché but we can’t be one week on one week off as a football club.
“Hopefully what we’ve set last week is a level of expectation.”
On Schache
“He’s good. It’s very common to rest first year players and sometimes second year players as well.
“You look back and you lose by three-points and you sometimes think could’ve he been the difference?
“You know in the long term it’s the right decision for him to get through the year.”
