Dayne Zorko is looking as fit as he’s ever been this pre-season, with the 33-year-old able to complete his first ‘pre pre-season’ for the first time in a number of years.
Zorko is noticeably more athletic and stronger, running alongside endurance beasts, Harry Sharp and Hugh McCluggage for much of the conditioning sessions.
Speaking to Lions Media, the Brisbane Skipper said he’s worked hard on ensuring his achilles issues are behind him.
“I’ve been working extremely hard on getting my achilles right,” he said.
“It’s been bugging me for the best part of three years. We had an intense program that I had to be strict about and it’s meant I’ve been able to run for the first time in pre-season for a number of years.
“It’s been great for me and I’m hopeful it’ll hold me in good stead for next season.”
Zorko also suggested that the squeeze for spots in Chris Fagan’s best 22 was driving the energy and hunger within the group.
“We’ve brought in such a fine calibre of players over the past four or five years, so naturally the group gets better,” he said.
“Our younger guys are learning off the experienced heads so there’s definitely competition for spots and that’s what Fages wants, it’s what we want.
“It’s certainly driving us to be better and ultimately, what will lead to a premiership cup so that’s what we’re striving towards and hopefully we’re in for a good season cause the competition’s hot.”
