The family ties are strong in the Brisbane Lions camp, as the Club proudly locks in 10 names to their VFL list for 2023.

Having finished second last season and falling just short of a Grand Final berth, Brisbane have continued their drive to recruit mature, experienced bodies for the 2023 VFL season.

Signing his older brother, Josh, just two months ago, Brisbane are excited to announce the signing of powerful midfielder, Kyle Dunkley for next year.

The 22-year-old played five AFL games for Melbourne in 2019 before being delisted and returning to the VFL with Essendon and the Northern Bullants.

We sat down with Josh Dunkley to chat about his trade to the Lions and how he's settling into the club.

Lockie Rayner will also join the Lions and younger brother, Cam, in 2023.

The 197cm key position player made his VFL debut for Essendon in Round One this year before returning to Premier Division footy in Victoria, where he was named best-on-ground on seven different occasions.

Former Geelong/Port utility Wylie Buzza will continue his football with the Club and provide leadership and experience to the young group.

Tahj Abberley, Harry Arnold, Riley Greene, Wilson Barry, Jackson Hille and Bruce Reville will all return for Brisbane in the new year, while a fresh face in Zack Derksen also joins the ranks.

Newly appointed VFL Senior Coach, Ben Hudson said he couldn’t be more excited for the season to come.

“We’re really excited about where the list sits at the moment,” Hudson said.

“To have quality players like Kyle want to continue their footy journey with the Club is really encouraging and to keep a similar group to last season is only going to help cohesion. 

“We have a lot of quality local talent that have been in the four walls for a number of years now and gel with our senior-listed players really well.

“Last season showed that we have a team that can compete with the best in the VFL competition and the players we’ve brought in, I’m hopeful can help us take that next step.”

Hudson takes the reins from Mitch Hahn, who will now move to a senior coaching role with the Brisbane Lions Academy.

The Lions will announce VFL fixture information in coming weeks.
