Emerging key forward Michael Close will miss the remainder of the season after knee surgery.
 
Scans today confirmed Close has ruptured the ACL in his left knee after landing awkwardly attempting a mark at Etihad Stadium in last night’s loss to North Melbourne.
 
Close was able to limp from the field by was subbed out of the game a short time afterwards.
 
Lions General Manager of Football, Dean Warren, said Close would undergo surgery in the near future with an anticipated recovery time of up to 12 months.
 
“It’s incredibly disappointing for Closey and everyone at the Footy Club really feels for him,” said Warren.
 
“As with any major injury, our focus is on making sure he gets the best care possible and getting him on the road to recovery as soon as possible.
 
“Closey has a meticulous approach to his training and preparation and that will hold him in good stead on the road back to full fitness.”
 
Close, 20, has kicked 10 goals in 15 senior games for the Lions and last year signed a three-year deal to the end of 2017.
 
In just his second season last year, Close was awarded the Marcus Ashcroft Most Professional Player Award at the Club Champion Presentation Evening, the youngest ever recipient of this honour.
