Lions Vice-Captain Dayne Zorko says he is excited by the prospect of a new season with a new coach.
He spoke to Lions TV this morning after the first whole group training session of the 2016-17 pre-season.
In today's session Nick Robertson took out the Club's second time trial of the pre-season. The West Australian set the pace early in the Lions' three-kilometre run at Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre.
“The boys ran their 3km time-trial really well. I think you’ll find there is quite a few boys that actually got PB’s which was really pleasing,” Zorko told LionsTV.
“It shows they’ve come back in good nick and are ready to kick into the year.”
The Lions had a tough 2016, but Zorko said the young core of players were extremely tight knit and although only two weeks into the tenure of new coach Chris Fagan, Zorko said there was already a different feel around pre-season training.
“All the new coaching staff that have been brought in have been pretty positive.
“I think they’ll be really good for our young group and their development and that’s what we really need.”
The reigning Merrett-Murray medallist said it was hard to be content with individual success and instead is focused on team performance and improvement.
“You always try to look to improve – I’ll be no different,” said Zorko.
“There are a lot of areas that I can definitely improve on for next year and we’ve got 6-12 weeks to really nail our craft and get into the year."
