In just two weeks, the Brisbane Lions will present the Merrett-Murray Medal to the player deemed ‘best and fairest’ throughout the 2013 season.
The prestigious event, to be held on Friday 6 September at the Gabba, gives fans an opportunity to get together with the Lions players and coaches to celebrate the season’s most outstanding performers.
The evening culminates in the crowning of our 2013 Club Champion.
It promises to be a thrilling vote count, with a number of players staking legitimate claim to the Club’s highest individual honour.
Recently re-signed Irishman Pearce Hanley would be considered an early favourite, however will the fact he’s missed two matches and been subbed out of another hurt his chances of claiming a maiden Merrett-Murray Medal?
Ruckman Matthew Leuenberger is also well-placed to secure his first Club Champion award, having shouldered the Lions’ ruck load for the majority of the season.
Can reigning Club Champion Joel Patfull make it two-in-a-row after another sensational season in defence? Tom Rockliff is another who could add a second Merrett-Murray Medal to his trophy cabinet with a terrific finish to the season.
Or will one of Jed Adcock or Jack Redden, who have regularly place in the top five, finally achieve the elusive honour?
The answers will be revealed on Friday 6 September at the Brisbane Lions Club Champion Dinner at the Gabba.
