The AFL will be seeking feedback from supporters on potential trial rules to be used during the 2012 NAB Cup.
The AFL’s General Manager of Football Operations, Adrian Anderson, said that the AFL would continue to use the pre-season period to consider potential trial rules that would benefit the competition.
“The AFL will make a decision on any trial rules that will be used before the end of this year to see if we can continue to improve our game, and ensure we retain the great highlights of our game,” Mr Anderson said.

In past years, the AFL has used the NAB Cup to trial the revised ruck rule at centre bounces, the altered advantage rule, the player substitute rule and the rushed behind rule - all of which are now used in the regular home and away season.
Feedback is being sought from the AFL on rules including:
• Interchange - two interchange players and two substitute players
• Boundary AND Goal umpires to pay holding and high contact free kicks
• Free kick against player who drags or holds ball under opponent
• Nine points for goals kicked from outside 50m (and player has choice)
• Double points (12) for a torpedo goal kicked from outside 50m
• Deliberate out of bounds - last kick/handball/walkover (variation on ‘last touch’ from 2011)
• Ruckmen not permitted to make contact prior to field bounces and throw-ins
• Premiership Season rules for all last round NAB Cup and Challenge matches
The fixture for the 2012 NAB Cup was announced last week, with the Lions set to line up against both Melbourne and Gold Coast in a pool in week 1, comprising two 20-minute halves across a three-hour window for the three matches.
The Lions will then face Adelaide in Alice Springs in week 2, followed by Carlton in week 3 at a venue to be decided.
