He’s developing into Brisbane’s Mr Fix-It and smooth-moving Lion Jared Brennan is happy to keep it that way.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Rivalry Round clash against Sydney at the Gabba, Brennan said his recent move into the midfield was something he was keen to pursue.

Just don’t expect him to make a habit of it.

The silky left-footer was one of the Lions’ best in the two-point win over Collingwood last Friday night, getting more time in an extended Brisbane rotation through the middle of the ground.

But with his long arms and springed heels, the 23-year-old is still just as likely to bob up in attack or tie down a versatile opposition forward.

Brennan said moving around the ground not only suited him, but also the team as a whole.

“I’ve never played in the midfield before and I’m loving it,” he said.

“Alby Proud hasn’t played a lot in the midfield. We’ve got a big midfield group of 10 to 12 players whereas before we relied on the Simon Blacks and the Luke Powers, we had the two or three.

“Now we’ve got a good core group of midfielders as well as the core defenders and forwards with Brown and Bradshaw and Merrett and Patfull down back so I think we just need game time together which we’re getting.

“I wouldn’t want to settle anywhere. If they need someone to go down back, I can go down back and if they need someone to go forward, I can go forward and if they need a midfielder, I can go there. I think it keeps my variety there as well.”

Brennan said coach Leigh Matthews had a chat with him before the season started to discuss the roving role he has held so far.

“We had a bit of a chat, just that he was going to use me in the various positions, whether that was down back or in the forward line or in the midfield, ” he revealed. “Whatever’s left, I’m happy to go anywhere.

“I haven’t been too good on my conversion of late but when I go forward hopefully (I can) snag a couple of goals.”

Giving nothing away on team selection, the 61-gamer could be in line for a number of roles on Saturday night with a quad injury to backman Josh Drummond throwing a spanner in the Lions’ works.

Despite not beating Sydney for four years, Brennan is confident the Lions can grab their second win of the season.

“When you go over the white line, anything can happen. We don’t worry about what happened three years ago, two years ago,” he said. “We know it’s a new game, a fresh game, and that’s what we look at it as.

“We feel we’ve got the best chance to beat them here at the Gabba on Saturday night.

“Goodes got off last night so they’ve got a pretty good team. Hall’s looking alright, but we kind of think we’re looking alright at the moment too.”
