The Brisbane Lions will unveil another debutant with Poppy Boltz named for her first AFLW match against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Saturday.
Boltz, drafted at Pick 16 in AFLW Supplementary Draft in April, is a powerful defender who has been plying her trade at the Southport Sharks in the QAFLW prior to being drafted.
Hailing from Cairns, Boltz made the move to the Gold Coast in 2022 to pursue her AFLW dream, which has since paid off in spades.
Joining Boltz is former Gold Coast Sun Ellie Hampson, who will play her first game as a Lion after being traded during the 2023 Sign and Trade period.
A strong inside midfielder, Hampson will provide AFLW head coach Craig Starcevich with another option in a bolstered midfield.
Making way for Boltz and Hampson are Ella Smith and Jade Pregelj who have been ommitted.
Saturday's clash also marks two milestones for Lions mainstays Sophie Conway (50 games) and Ruby Svarc (25 games).
Conway, an energetic winger, has a knack of floating forward and is a regular contributor on the scoreboard with 26 goals in 49 outings as a Lion.
“Six years involved with the Brisbane Lions, we’ve had a few ups and downs along the way but it’s as special as anything,” she said.
“50 down and hopefully a long, long career to come, to keep pulling on this jumper is pretty special and I love it."
Her teammate, Svarc equally shares the goal kicking flair, with the speedster shooting on the scene in Season 7 of the AFLW following an incredible full-field effort against North Melbourne.
The Lions travel to Adelaide to take on Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval from 1:05pm EST on Saturday.
