We take a look at some of the key stats from our Round 17 game against the GWS GIANTS.

 

We finished with 83 tackles

The GWS GIANTS out-tackled us on the weekend despite us having 117 less disposals. We were out-tackled 85 - 83.

Tackling and pressure will be an important focus heading into our Round 18 game against the Bombers.

 

 

Number of marks inside 50 for GWS.

The GIANTS took a total of 21 marks inside 50 (5 contested). Jeremy Cameron finished the game having taken 8 of these marks.

Our backline was young and inexperienced, and came under fire with GWS having 77 inside 50s, but we were still able to see some positive signs from them.

 

The differential in terms of contested possession

The contested ball result of -52 eclipsed our Round 5 game against the Western Bulldogs (-51) as our worst contested ball result this Season.

We took three contested marks a opposed to the GIANTS' 12. In the second quarter alone, the GIANTS took 9 contested marks to our one.

 

Number of spoils by Lions

The young defence came under fire, and our boys did all that they could. And despite taking a Season low of 3 intercept marks for the game, we made 61 spoils, which is the 2nd highest of any team this year.

Hammelmann had 13 spoils, which is not only his career high, but the 12th highest number recorded this Season.
