The Brisbane Lion’s new Institute of Business and Sport Program, in partnership with TAFE Queensland, has hit the ground running with potential students packing out the first program briefing session held at the Gabba on Saturday.

Lions Chief Operating Officer, Sam Graham, said he was buoyed by the interest in the program with more than 100 in attendance.

“Sport is such a dynamic industry to be involved in and what better way to get potential students engaged in the program than at the Gabba prior to our Saturday night win over Richmond.

“The yearlong course will see students completing the double Diploma of Sport and Diploma of Leadership and Management while gaining practical insight in the operations of an elite AFL club, with students immersed in the Lions daily operations at Brighton Homes Arena.

“Seeing all the prospective students engaging with one another as well as industry leaders is exactly what we are aiming to achieve with the Lions Institute of Business and Sport.

We see this as a terrific opportunity to upskill young Queenslanders, kick start careers and deliver a terrific outcome for our wider community.”

Lions Education Program Manager, Anna O’Keeffe said another session is scheduled to be held at Brighton Homes Arena this Tuesday evening.

“We are hoping this is just the beginning as people continue to learn more about what the program has to offer as we head to toward our first in take in July.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with TAFE Queensland to deliver this initiative and there’s still time for prospective students to attend.

The second session will be held at Brighton Homes Arena on Tuesday 21 May, with doors opening at 5:30pm and the presentation to commence at 5:45pm.
