The Brisbane Lions VFL side continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon, making it six victories in a row, downing Coburg by 48 points.

Despite a sluggish start from both sides, the Lions booted 16 goals after quarter time, running out 18.11 (119) to 10.11 (71) winners.

After giving up the first goal of the game the game descended into an arm wrestle, with the Lions answering through Will McLachlan and Luke Lloyd.

An inaccurate opening term, saw Brisbane boot six behinds to go with their two majors to lead by nine-points at quarter-time.

The Lions younger brigade stood tall to help arrest momentum in the hosts favour with mid-season rookies, Luke Beecken, Darcy Craven and McLachlan impressing.

Beecken particularly off half-back was eye catching with a game-high 13 marks, coupled with 29 disposals continued his good run of form since joining the Lions.

Craven and McLachlan both booted two goals for the game while collecting 15 and 12 touches respectively.

It comes as Craven continues his goal-kicking prowess booting a major in every game he’s played in Lions colours.

The Lions burst out of the blocks in the second term, kicking three goals inside six minutes to put the game on their terms.

Majors to Henry Smith, Jimmy Tunstill and Craven helped the Lions push the margin before Coburg hit back with three of the next four goals.

Two majors from Kyle Dunkley and a Darcy Fort goal, helped the Lions steady the ship and take a 27-point lead into the main break.

Tunstill was impressive through the midfield along with J.J Liston medallist, Jarryd Lyons and helped swing momentum toward the home side in the second term.

Finishing with 27 and 24 possessions each, it was the pairs work at clearance which defined the match as they collected a combined 17 clearances for the game.

A blistering start from Coburg in the second half saw them boot the first three goals and whittle the margin down to seven points.

The Lions responded emphatically kicking seven of the next eight goals of the contest to balloon their lead to 41 points at three-quarter time.

Tunstill and Fort’s second along with scores from Harry Sharp, Ewan Macpherson, Jack Manly, Brandon Ryan and Lyons flipped the game on its head and helped the Lions gain an unassailable lead.

Coburg challenged again the start the final term booting two majors as they looked to mount a comeback but the Lions were able to steady again.

Manly, Macpherson and Craven’s second majors put the game to bed and helped the Lions to their sixth win in as many starts.

Reece Torrent enjoyed a solid day in his new position down back as the Lions defence were able to hold Coburg to 10 majors for the match.

The Lions next challenge comes in the form of the Casey Demons next Saturday July 6th at Brighton Homes Arena from 1:05pm.
