Dakota Davidson will remain a Lion for an extra three seasons with the two-time AFLW Premiership extending her time with the Lions until the end of the 2027 season.

The Ipswich local and 2023 All-Australian joins a host of other premiership Lions in extending long term, including captain Bre Koenen, vice-captain Natalie Grider and two-time premiership winning Irish import, Orla O’Dwyer among several others.

Davidson played an integral role in the Lions 2023 premiership triumph will continue exciting the Lions faithful with her on-field energy and prowess in front of goal.

Following on from her best year in maroon, blue and gold, Davidson was ecstatic to be staying put at Brighton Homes Arena.

“The journey so far has been incredible, lots of ups, lots of downs and lots of laughs,” Davidson said.

“I don’t see myself doing it with any other club and to be able to say I’ll be a Lion for the next four years is very special to me.

“I’ve grown as a person and player, you couldn’t have told me 10 years ago I would’ve played in 50 AFLW games and won two flags, but here I am.

“I’m proud of who I’ve become and as a player and mentor for my teammates and the future generations.”

Lions AFLW senior coach, Craig Starcevich knows that locking away Davidson is a great boost for his side and the Club as a whole.

“Dakota took a massive step forward last season and really stood up for us in crucial moments after taking on greater responsibility in our attack,” he said.

“What impressed us most was her willingness to take on a bigger role as a leader both on and off the field.  Dakota brings so much energy to our group but to see that have a positive effect on her teammates, particularly in big games, was very pleasing.

“She brings people to the game with her on field exploits and her charisma and that is something we are looking forward to seeing more of across the next four seasons.”

With the fixture for the 2024 NAB AFLW season confirmed, the Lions are preparing for a Round 1 showdown against Grand Final opponents North Melbourne at Brighton Homes Arena on Sunday September 1 from 3:05pm.
