The Brisbane Lions are mourning the loss of former Fitzroy player Stewart Duncan who passed away peacefully last night aged 84.

The sad news comes just six months after the tragic passing of his daughter, Nicole Duncan, who spent more than 30 years as the Club’s Football Administration Manager.

Recruited from Parkside, Stewart Duncan played 30 games and kicked seven goals with Fitzroy from 1960-64.

He was the 759th player to represent Fitzroy in a senior VFL match and wore the number 18 guernsey throughout his time at the Club.

Duncan and his family later relocated to Queensland and he remained heavily involved in Australian Rules – even spending time as a volunteer at the Brisbane Lions across a variety of football roles.

The Club extends its sincerest condolences to the entire Duncan family at this incredibly difficult time.

The Brisbane Lions will wear black armbands this Sunday at the Gabba in honour of Stewart Duncan.
