Brisbane Lions defender Jack Payne has taken another strong step towards a return to playing after he completed his first running session.

Payne, who has been involved in light skills and running on the Alter G Anti-Gravity Treadmill for several weeks, hit the track with teammates on Tuesday.

The Lions high performance team will increase his training load over the next week with the view of him being a chance to play in the next fortnight.

Forward Eric Hipwood, who has missed the last two games with groin soreness, also took part in training on Tuesday and remains a test ahead of Saturday’s clash with Collingwood.

Fellow forward Brandon Ryan is also a test to play this weekend after he missed Sunday’s VFL win over GWS GIANTS with a rolled ankle.

The Lions confirm fellow defender Carter Michael will sit out the rest of the season after being hampered by injury for most of 2024.
