After six years in the system at two different Clubs, this weekend two-time premiership winner, Taylor Smith will notch 50 games.

Smith was drafted by the Gold Coast SUNS in the 2019 draft but was traded to Brisbane ahead of the 2021 AFL Season after playing one game.

Making her Club debut in the Lions Round 1 win over Richmond, Smith played every game in a Premiership winning season, her first in Maroon, Blue and Gold.

“I’m super excited to have reached this milestone, and beyond grateful to have spent majority of my career as a lion,” Smith said.

“Over the past 4 years I’ve developed so much through the program and I’m looking forward to what’s to come with this club.

“It’s been a journey and half to say the least so to now reflect on the challenges that’s I’ve endured and the progress I have made is a really good feeling, and I hope I’ve still got plenty more in me.”

Smith’s on field performance continued to improve in 2022 winning Most Relentless following Season six.

A heptathlete prior to her AFLW career, Smith was a late starter to football taking up the game post-athletics career in Year 12 but within a year was playing for Queensland at Under 18 level.

Across her five years in Brisbane, Smith has only missed two games demonstrating her durability in a physical position as a forward/ruck.

A regular fixture in Craig Starcevich’s side and a regular contributor on the scoreboard, Smith has formed a nice partnership with both Tahlia Hickie in the ruck and Dakota Davidson up forward to provide flexibility around the ground and in attack.

Smith will play her 50th AFLW game on Saturday against the Melbourne at Casey Fields in Week 2 of the 2024 NAB AFLW Season.
