The Brisbane Lions' AFLW side are ready to fire in Round 2 of the Winter Series, fresh from their dominating win over GWS Giants South in Round 1.

The Lions have named a strong 21-woman side to take on GWS Giants North in their only home game for the season this Saturday morning at Aspley.

Sixteen AFLW listed Lions players will take centre stage, with Ruby Blair to pull on the guernsey for the first time.

Blair came to the Club last year with the Lions' sixth pick (41st overall) in the 2017 AFLW Draft.

Although she did not play an AFLW game in 2018, Lions coaching staff were encouraged by her growth throughout the season and signed her on for a second year in 2019.

Joining Blair for their first Winter Series games are QWAFL’s Kayla Geddes and U18 Queensland star Jessi Henning.

Geddes plays for Coorparoo in the QWAFL competition, is 30 years old and a teacher by trade and only in her second season of football.

Lions Women’s CEO Breanna Brock said the Club is proud to give up and coming players an opportunity at the elite level.

“Kayla plays with a lot of pace and is still learning the game but shows great potential,” Brock said.

“We can’t wait to see what she can do at this level.”

Henning, who is a member of the Lions Hyundai Help for Kids Girls Academy is a Dalby junior who will play for Queensland at the upcoming nationals competition.

“Jessi was in our train-on squad last year,” Brock said.

“She’s still a developing tall but has a great strength and fitness base. On Saturday she’ll get her chance to play in our backline and learn from the best.”

Brock and the Lions coaching staff have enjoyed the introduction of the Winter Series in 2018.

“It’s been fantastic to see how much interest the series has generated and how excited our local fans are to be able to see the girls in action mid-year,” she said.

“We encourage everyone to get down to Aspley (Graham Road). It’s a massive day for the Club with all three teams playing GWS. We hope we can start off the day with a victory.”

Bounce is 11am at Aspley (Graham Road) against GWS Giants North. The match is not live-streamed. Score updates will be on the Lions AFLW Twitter account
