Daniel Rich is laying low after breaking his scapula (shoulder blade) at training last Wednesday.
The 2013 Michael Tuck Medallist is still in the early stages of his recovery and won’t be back in action at the Hyundai Centre for another couple of weeks.
“Richy’s pretty sore at the moment. He’s not doing any activity or training at all,” Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton told LIONS TV as part of the Bupa Recovery Report.
“With a scapula, you can’t really support it. His pain tolerance is really dictating what he can do at the moment.”
“In the first week or two he will be pretty quiet, stay comfortable, and just allow the injury to heal. Then in about a week or so, we’ll get him going again.”
Rich wasn’t the only Lions player to be added to the injury list last week, with scans also revealing a significant amount of damage to Stefan Martin’s ankle.
Martin is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks.
In better news, Burton expects Matt Maguire (leg) and Callum Bartlett (cheekbone) to re-join training this week.
“We’ve got a couple of guys coming back from rehab this week in Matt Maguire and Callum Bartlett,” he said.
“While Callum’s able to train, he obviously can’t play at the moment because of his (broken) cheekbone.”
