The Brisbane Lions confirm premiership Co-Captain Lachie Neale will not require surgery on his foot.

Neale, who played the second half of 2024 with a heel issue, underwent scans on Tuesday which confirmed the midfielder tore his plantar fascia in the Grand Final.

Following surgical review and further consultation with the club, it was confirmed surgery was not required and a conservative approach will be taken.

Neale’s recovery will include four to six weeks of non-weight bearing and the premiership skipper wearing a moon boot.

The Lions will then review Neale’s progress before looking to have him back running between six and eight weeks.

The club expected Neale to be running when pre-season returns in November and then progress into full training post-Christmas break.

The scan results were positive news for Neale and the Lions, given this injury is generally a 12-week return to play.
