Brisbane Lions young duo Reece Torrent and Zane Zakostelsky have both signed new one-year deals keeping them at Brighton Homes Arena until the end of 2026.

Zakostelsky (pick 51) and Torrent (pick 64) both joined the Lions via the 2023 AFL Draft and have showed promise in the Lions VFL team since.

Lions General Manager of Football, Danny Daly said he has been impressed with the pair’s development.

“Both Zane and Reece have shown real potential since joining our AFL program and receiving another contract is reward for their hard work,” Daly said.

“Their development throughout the VFL last season was noticeable and it is a credit to their work ethic and professionalism.

“We’re excited to have another two of our younger crew commit to the Club.”

Zakostelsky, 19, made his Club debut at VFL level in Round 6 before going on to play 16 games, including three finals.

The former basketballer and Western Australian product looked at home playing in the backline for the Lions VFL side and said he wants to keep improving.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and very excited as to what is to come in the near future,” Zakostelsky said

“I feel I have made a lot of progress with my footy since being drafted, so I am extremely grateful for the extension.

“A massive thanks to all the coaches and Danny (Daly) for this opportunity, it’s the best job in the world so super keen to be re-signing.”

Torrent also enjoyed a strong run of form throughout the 2024 Smithy’s VFL Season and displayed glimpses of what he is capable of.

The 19-year-old, also drafted out of Western Australia, plied his trade as both an inside and outside midfielder.

“I have loved every minute of my time at the club so far,” Torrent said.

“It’s a pretty special environment to be a part of and the culture here is unreal.

“I am very keen to keep getting to work and learning off all the boys.
