Ruckman Stefan Martin has signed a one-year extension with the Brisbane Lions, seeing him remain in the Den until at least the end of 2020.
The 32-year-old is thrilled to know he will be with the Lions next year, after such an enjoyable 2019 season so far.
“This year is completely different to any other year I’ve ever experienced,” he said.
“It’s just unreal to know that I’ll be around and know that I can keep working hard as we continue to go from strength to strength.”
Martin was traded to the Lions via the Melbourne Demons in late 2012 and across his seven seasons has been one of the Club’s most consistent performers.
He has played all 19 games for the Club this year with his Round 7 performance against the Sydney Swans amongst his best. Martin was instrumental that afternoon with 33 hit-outs, 21 disposals and four tackles in the Lions’ first victory over the Swans in a decade.
General Manager of Football David Noble said Martin has been important leader for the Lions in 2019.
“Over the past three years Stef has become a valued member of our leadership group and continues to contribute,” he said.
“He invests so much of his time and energy into the team with the aim of achieving success.”
Martin will line-up against the Western Bulldogs this Sunday at The Gabba in what will be his 177th AFL match.
