Oscar McInerney looks a little ungainly when kicking for goal, but on Saturday night the towering Brisbane ruckman again showed he was a good man for the big occasion.
With scores level and just over a minute remaining against North Melbourne, McInerney was the recipient of a contentious free kick 20m from goal.
Any score would give his team the lead, but the popular Victorian ensured Brisbane could not lose by slamming the ball right through the middle.
"I was definitely nervous at the time," McInerney told AFL.com.au in the Lions' dressing-rooms post-match.
"The first thing was to try and take the full 30 (seconds). That's the most nervous thing because that's when the thoughts start flowing through your mind.
"You've just got to stick to the process you go through during the week.
"Lucky enough it was only 10m out (closer to 25) and I was able to kick it."
McInerney said he had "no idea" if the free kick was there, saying the game was such an adrenaline rush he'd have to look at the tape during the week.
It was the second time this year 'Big O' had stepped up in a clutch moment for the Lions.
In round three against Port Adelaide and with Brisbane trailing by two points, he took a big pack mark 35m from goal inside the final three minutes.
He kicked the goal and the Lions won.
"You've just got to stay calm and back your routine," he said.
Brisbane coach Chris Fagan said the 204cm ruckman worked hard on his goalkicking.
"His style looks a little awkward, but by-and-large he's a pretty straight kick.
"I didn't have any fears there.
"I trust him fully because I know he does the work."
McInerney has kicked 21.13 in his 30-game career.
